# EDGAR Entity by CIK API Reference | SEC API > Complete API reference for the EDGAR Entity by CIK lookup. Source: https://sec-api.io/api-reference/edgar-entity-by-cik Identifiers and entities GET`https://api.sec-api.io/edgar-entities?cik={cik}` Look up one EDGAR filing entity by its CIK and get its full profile back: name, business and mailing address, state of incorporation, SIC, fiscal year end, filer category, auditor details and every form type it has ever filed. This is the single-entity variant of the EDGAR Entities API, and it returns the same object shape as the POST search endpoint. The header is preferred; the query parameter exists for cases where a header cannot be set, such as opening a URL directly in a browser. Authorization: required header The API key on its own. Do not prefix it with Bearer or any other word. Example `Authorization: YOUR_API_KEY` token: optional query parameter The API key, appended to the URL. Use this only when a header is not possible. ## Query parameters Appended to the URL as a query string. cik: required string Central Index Key (CIK) of the entity to look up. The CIK is the unique identifier EDGAR assigns to every filer. Leading zeros are stripped, so use 1318605 rather than 0001318605. Example `1318605` ## Response A JSON object. Nested attributes are collapsed; expand one to see its fields. total: object How many entities matched the CIK. value: integer Number of matching entities. It is 1 when the CIK is known to EDGAR, and 0 when it is not. relation: string Either eq, meaning value is exact, or gte, meaning value is a floor. data: array of object The matching entity, wrapped in an array. The array is empty when no entity carries the CIK. The GET and the POST endpoint return the same object shape. id: string Unique id of the entity record. It equals the CIK. cik: string Central Index Key of the entity, returned as a string with leading zeros removed, for example 1318605. name: string Name of the entity. businessAddress: object Business address of the entity. street1: string First line of the street address. street2: optional string Second line of the street address. null when the entity reports none. city: string City, for example AUSTIN. state: string Two-letter state code, for example TX. stateName: optional string Full state name, for example TEXAS. zip: string ZIP or postal code. country: optional string Country. An empty string when EDGAR reports none. mailingAddress: object Mailing address of the entity. street1: string First line of the street address. street2: optional string Second line of the street address. null when the entity reports none. city: string City, for example AUSTIN. state: string Two-letter state code, for example TX. stateName: optional string Full state name, for example TEXAS. zip: string ZIP or postal code. country: optional string Country. An empty string when EDGAR reports none. stateOfIncorporation: string State of incorporation of the entity, for example DE for Delaware. phone: string Phone number of the entity. irsNo: string Internal Revenue Service (IRS) tax identification number of the entity, for example 912197729. fiscalYearEnd: string Month and day on which the fiscal year of the entity ends, in MMDD format. 1231 means 31 December. sic: string Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) code of the entity, for example 3711. sicLabel: string SIC code together with its industry label, for example 3711 Motor Vehicles & Passenger Car Bodies. cfOffice: string Central Filing Office of the entity, for example 04 Manufacturing. filerCategory: string Filer category of the entity. Values include Large Accelerated Filer, Accelerated Filer and Non-accelerated Filer. wellKnownSeasonedIssuer: boolean true when the entity is a well-known seasoned issuer, as defined in Rule 405 of the Securities Act. false otherwise. voluntaryFiler: boolean true when the entity is not required to file. false otherwise. smallBusiness: boolean true when the entity is a Smaller Reporting Company (SRC). emergingGrowthCompany: boolean true when the entity is an emerging growth company, as defined in the Jumpstart Our Business Startups (JOBS) Act. false otherwise. shellCompany: boolean true when the entity is a shell company, as defined in Rule 12b-2 of the Exchange Act. false otherwise. currentReportingStatus: boolean true when the entity has filed all reports required by Section 13 or 15(d) of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 during the preceding 12 months, or for the shorter period in which it was required to file them, and has been subject to those filing requirements for the past 90 days. false otherwise. interactiveDataCurrent: boolean true when the entity has submitted electronically every Interactive Data File required by Rule 405 of Regulation S-T during the preceding 12 months, or for the shorter period in which it was required to submit them. latestIcfrAuditFiledAt: optional string Date of the latest auditor attestation of the internal control over financial reporting (ICFR) of the entity. ISO 8601 in Eastern Time, for example 2026-01-28T20:55:03-05:00. latestIcfrAuditSource: optional string Accession number of the filing that carries the latest ICFR auditor attestation, for example 0001628280-26-003952. auditorName: optional string Name of the auditor of the entity, for example PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. auditorFirmId: optional string PCAOB-registered firm ID of the auditor, for example 238 for PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. auditorLocation: optional string City and state of the auditor, for example San Jose, California. formTypes: object Every form type the entity has filed since it registered with the SEC. Each key is a form type such as 10-K, 10-Q or 8-K, and its value is true. UpdatedAt: string Every field above has a matching timestamp field that records when that field last changed, for example nameUpdatedAt, businessAddressUpdatedAt and filerCategoryUpdatedAt. ISO 8601 in Eastern Time. ## Status codes | | | | --- | --- | | `200` | Success. The response holds total and data. An unknown CIK also returns 200, with total.value set to 0 and an empty data array. | | `400` | The cik query parameter is missing, or it is not a valid CIK. | | `403` | The API key is missing, or it is not valid. | | `429` | Too many requests. Slow the request rate and retry. | | `500` | Server error.
