Track revenue backlog across the semiconductor industry over five quarters

Resolves all 25 US semiconductor companies through the Mapping API and pulls five quarters of Item 2.02 earnings press releases for each. None quantify revenue backlog, so the output charts accounts receivable instead, ranked across the industry and trended per company.

Prompt

Copy and paste into your assistant
For all companies in the semiconductor industry (via Mapping API), fetch their latest 8-K Item 2.02, then get Exhibit 99 (earnings press release), extract revenue backlog (or accounts receivable), and tell me how much revenue backlog is reported. then, for the same companies, fetch their 8-K Item 2.02 with Ex 99 earnings press releases for the last 5 quarters too, and plot the revenue backlogs as bar charts over time

Output

The headline finding is a negative result. None of the 25 companies put a dollar figure on backlog, so the report falls back to accounts receivable and says so. Hover any bar for the exact figure.

Files produced

  • report.htmlThe interactive report, with hover values on every bar.
  • data.csv125 rows, one per company and quarter, each carrying the URL of the exhibit it came from.
  • report.pngThe whole report as a single image, for pasting into a deck or a message.

When to use this prompt

  • Screening an entire industry rather than a single company.
  • Establishing whether a metric is disclosed at all before building a model that depends on it.
  • Building a panel dataset where each row has to be traceable to the filing it came from.

What you get back

  • A ranked chart of the metric across every company in the industry, plus a five-quarter trend panel per company.
  • A CSV with one row per company and quarter, each carrying the URL of the exhibit the figure was read from.
  • A direct answer to the question that was asked. None of the 25 companies quantify revenue backlog in the Item 2.02 exhibit. The word appears 34 times across 125 exhibits, always qualitatively, as in "backlog growth" or "healthy backlog", never with a number attached.

Variations

  • Change the industry. The Mapping API resolves the company list, so nothing here is specific to semiconductors.
  • Change the metric to one that is reliably disclosed, such as gross margin, deferred revenue or headcount.
  • Extend the window past five quarters to cover a full cycle.
  • Ask for the qualitative backlog language itself rather than a figure, since that is what companies actually publish.

Filings used

  • 125 Form 8-K Item 2.02 filings with their Exhibit 99 earnings press releases, five quarters each for 25 US semiconductor companies.
  • Quarters ending between March 30, 2025 and July 4, 2026. Data through August 18, 2026.
  • Company list resolved through the Mapping API by industry, covering ADI, ALAB, AMD, AVGO, CRUS, DIOD, INTC, LSCC, MCHP, MPWR, MRVL, MU, NVDA, NXPI, ON, POWI, QCOM, QRVO, RMBS, SLAB, SMTC, SWKS, SYNA, TXN and WOLF.
